Blackout Periods tell Rigor to pause a check and keep it from loading for a specific period of time.
This feature is useful if you have scheduled maintenance windows or planned pushes to production. We can use a blackout period to prevent Rigor checks from running and alerting within those set periods of time.
There are two ways to apply blackout periods to Rigor checks:
- Edit an individual check and specify a blackout period (applied on a check-by-check basis)
- Use Bulk Change to set blackout periods to a group of checks
How To Apply a Blackout Period to an Individual Check
- Use the Settings action cog to Edit the check
- Click on the Basic tab, scroll down to Blackout Periods, and click + Add Blackout Period
- Select a frequency: Blackout Once, Daily, Weekly, Monthly (Day of Week)*, or Monthly (Day of Month)**
- Specify a Start Date, Start Time, End Time, Repeat Until (End Date), and a time zone
- Save the check
How To Apply a Blackout Period via Bulk Change
- Admin > Bulk Change
- Select which checks you’d like to be affected by the blackout period
- Scroll down to Blackout Periods, and click + Add Blackout Period
- Select a frequency: Blackout Once, Daily, Weekly, Monthly (Day of Week), or Monthly (Day of Month)
- Specify a Start Date, Start Time, End Time, Repeat Until (End Date), and a time zone
- Click Bulk Change the button to apply the blackout period to all checks
Notes:
-
Monthly (Day of Week) can be used to blackout on a particular day, for example: the first Thursday of every month
-
Monthly (Day of the Month) can be used to blackout on a particular date, for example: the 15th of every month
-
We may apply more than one blackout period to a check; this is useful for bi-weekly blackout schedules or one-off events
-
You may also use Control Groups to programmatically pause / unpause Rigor checks via the API
-
We can use the Check Information button to see whether a blackout period is applied to a check:
